The 2019 AGM of ADESSA was a huge success. Many members attended in person and others Zoomed in from different parts of the country to hear the main speaker, Brian Schreuder (Head of Department of the WCED), giving an inspiring talk about the approach of the Western Cape Education Department towards education.
The WCED’s transformational strategy has two pillars: e-learning and a “transform to perform” philosophy. Mr Schreuder highlighted the role that the private sector can play in providing good quality content and invited ADESSA to continue its discussions with the province.

After years of working behind the scenes to boost our membership and to build good relationships with the decision makers of education, it is satisfying to see that our efforts are paying off and that ADESSA is now poised to play a significant role in the furtherance of good education in South Africa. Our members are thrilled at the prospects that this opportunity opens for them.
Brainplaywill be at the Cape Winelands Education District conference/exp on 9 March 2019 and will display a variety of educational products. It may not be possible to show the entire range of over 4 000 products, but one of them that will be on display will be the Foundation Phase Maths Kit. The image below shows some of the items of this kit.
Kolok, a member of ADESSA, will exhibit a range of technologies that are suitable for the education environment during an expo/conference arranged by the Cape Winelands District of the Western Cape Education Department, on Saturday, 9 March 2019.
In a bold move, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), conducted a workshop with the theme Relevance and Impact of Technology – How Do We Measure It? in Cape Town on Saturday, 15 September 2018. Delegates were invited from four sectors: school principals, WCED officials, academics and the business sector. The latter sector was co-ordinated by ADESSA.
Twelve members of ADESSA attended the event and had the opportunity to discuss challenges, and ways in which the business sector can assist the department to ensure that technology has the desired impact.
This workshop was promised to be only the first in a series of such workshops, during which ADESSA will explore the best way for its members to form meaningful partnerships with education.
